Overview of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine

Let me start with a general overview of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine.  Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine has been around for thousands of years.  Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) theory stipulates the importance of a continuous flow of  “qi” (pronounced as chi)that flows through the body twenty four hours a day.    The air that we breath, the food that we eat and all of our bodily tissue contain this qi.  If this flow is disrupted, pathogens can enter our bodies and cause disease.  A TCM practitioner will perform a health screening of the whole person including pulse and tongue diagnosis, physical observation and lifestyle questions to identify imbalances that may manifest in pain, emotions, energy, digestion, and sleep.  We can develop a treatment plan to address these imbalances with the insertion of fine needles strategically placed and herbal formulas.  It is a less invasive approach to healing that is specific to your constitution and your lifestyle.   This ancient medicine can support a healthy lifestyle, keep medical cost down and allow us to live life to the fullest.  I look forward to answering specific questions regarding how acupuncture can help you.
